The "Citizens' Assembly 2025" research project is investigating new complementary forms of democracy. To this end, a citizens' assembly on the topic of "rising healthcare costs" will be held between November 2024 and March 2025. One hundred randomly selected residents from all over Switzerland will take part.
The public is already invited to have their say on the issue of rising healthcare costs. They can use an online platform to express their priorities and focal points. The proposals with the most votes will then be submitted to the Citizens' Assembly for discussion.
In a citizens' assembly, people from the entire population come together to discuss an important political issue. To ensure that as many different people and opinions as possible are represented, the members of the citizens' assembly are selected at random.
The Citizens Assembly meets on a total of three weekends and at several online meetings. The aim is to tackle an important political challenge facing Switzerland and discuss possible solutions together.
The focus of interest is the question of the extent to which citizens' assemblies are suitable for conducting important social debates and counteracting the increasing hardening of political positions. The project aims to facilitate dialogue across language barriers and strengthen the cohesion of the population. The implementation of a citizens' assembly as part of this research project is based on scientific standards and best practices.
